Financial COnsideraTIons
Program Fee
The board will collect fees weekly from the fellows. The fees will cover rent, programs costs, and a limited community grocery budget. This fee is $350/week, or $2,800 for the eight week summer. The grocery budget will cover limited communal needs for food and house supplies, but interns will also be spending their own money for groceries and meals dining out. Fellows are expected to think through taxes, pay cycles, and cash planning as a useful discipline for real life.
Pay:
We ask employers to pay Dallas Fellows $18/hour for a 40 hour week, over the entire 8 week summer program. Some employers may pay higher rates. Note that on Fridays, Dallas Fellows will not be in their employer office, but will be meeting with local leaders and serving local non profit organizations. The reason that we ask employers to pay for Fridays even though interns are not in the office is that some students are not able to participate in a program like Dallas Fellows unless they can earn enough to have savings into the school year.
